| Our hides come from the Texas Hill Country. Axis deer were introduced to the Texas Hill country in the 1930's as hunting game on a Texas Ranch from India (their native home). Due to animals escaping high fences, ideal climate, abundant food, water and cover, axis deer have begun to over-populate many areas. Competing with native game like White Tail Deer and destroying crops planted for sheep, goats and cattle. This has made it necessary to cull, (reduce the size of free range herds). Axis deer are never culled just for their hides. Axis venison is by far the most tasty venison available.
